CBT vs. SSRI for Treatment of Sexual Trauma-Related PTSD

Description of the Study: This study compares the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to sertraline (Zoloft) for individuals with PTSD resulting from childhood and/or adulthood sexual trauma. In addition, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans are conducted before and after treatment to identify potential changes brought about by treatment. The treatment is conducted over a period of 16 weeks with pre-treatment evaluations, mid-treatment evaluations, and post-treatment evaluations. All evaluations and treatments are at no charge to the patient.
This study ends July 2009.
Eligibility Criteria: Individuals between the ages of 18 and 55 who have experienced sexual trauma are eligible.
