Alicia E. Meuret, PhD

Dr. Alicia E. Meuret, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist and the Director of the Anxiety and Depression Research Center at Southern Methodist University.  Dr. Meuret is a leading researcher in the field of anxiety and mood disorders.  She has published over 90 scientific publications and authored over 150 presentations at scientific conferences. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of ADAA.

Alexander Gorbis obtained his master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and is a BBS registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 123454). He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Economics from the University of California, Davis. As a student, he volunteered at Sandy Segal Youth Health Center providing mental health services to youth and teens suffering from anxiety, depression, and grief. Concurrently, Mr.

Sheila M. Dowd, PhD

Sheila M. Dowd, PhD

Dr. Dowd is the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago (RUMC). Her research began with studying Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for treatment-resistant depression. This work contributed to its approval by the FDA in 2008. She continues to grow a successful TMS program treating depression, OCD, and more recently PTSD.

Dr. Dawson is a Core Investigator with the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center and the Houston Center of Innovation for Quality, Effectiveness, and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Instructor in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. His research promotes health equity in mental health treatment among minoritized populations. Specifically, his work aims to increase access and initiation of tobacco cessation treatment for African American Veterans.

I first became an ADAA member many years ago when I submitted a proposal to present a workshop on body dysmorphic disorder at one of the annual conferences. As an individual who has lived with BDD himself, and as a therapist who treats it, I was acutely aware of how few clinicians there were who specialized in it at the time. That was just the first of several presentations on BDD I have given at those conferences.

Susan Clayton, PhD

Susan Clayton , PhD, is the Whitmore-Williams Professor of Psychology at the College of Wooster in Ohio and a visiting fellow at the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies. Dr. Clayton’s research examines people’s relationship with the natural environment; she has written about the effects of climate change on mental health, and about climate anxiety in particular. She is a lead author on the forthcoming Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
