School shootings and mass violence occurs at concerning rates in the United States. As a result, many Americans are experiencing emotional impacts of being repeatedly exposed to news of these events. This presentation will begin with a discussion of how hearing about these events impacts others. Normal reactions to exposure to this information will be presented. Finally, strategies for managing fear and worry about school shootings will be discussed, and examples of strategies for parents/guardians, teachers/school staff, and students will be presented.
