Dr. Virginia Runko, a licensed psychologist and certified behavioral sleep medicine specialist, describes how insomnia is related to anxiety and depressive disorders, and how CBT-I (cognitive-behavior therapy for insomnia) is an effective treatment.

Virginia Runko

Dr. Virginia Runko is a licensed clinical psychologist and is board-certified in behavioral sleep medicine.  She earned her BS in Psychology from Indiana University and her PhD in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Miami.  She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral sleep medicine at Johns Hopkins.  She has worked in sleep clinics and psychology group practices.  In 2019, she started her own practice, DC Psychology and Sleep Services, where she continues to treat sleep disorders.  The majority of her clinical work continues to be Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia but she also provides psychotherapy for other conditions, including anxiety and depression.
