ADAA Awards Program

A critical part of the mission of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America is to support research. The ADAA Awards Program furthers that goal by involving graduate students and early career professionals in the activities of ADAA and the anxiety disorders research community.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT TRAVEL AWARDS
Submission Deadline: November 21, 2008

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America Career Development Travel Awards aim to help early career professionals with a career interest in fields related to anxiety disorders, such as basic and clinical neurobiology and psychopharmacology, clinical psychology, genetics, neuroimaging, epidemiology, and public health, as well as other areas. The awards also familiarize aspiring professionals with the membership and work of the association. ADAA is dedicated to promoting the prevention and ultimate cure of anxiety disorders and to improving the lives of all people who suffer from them through education and research.

ADAA will give up to 15 awards to graduate students and early career professionals to present their research at the Poster Session at the ADAA 29th Annual Conference, March 12-15, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya, Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.

AWARD COMPONENTS
• Winners must present a New Research Poster at the ADAA Annual Conference on Friday, March 13
• Complimentary registration will be given to the ADAA Annual Conference
• Complimentary one-year ADAA membership, including subscription to the journal Depression & Anxiety
• Travel stipend of $750 to attend the ADAA Annual Conference
• Eligibility for the Best Poster Presentation award
• Recognition at the Conference and on the ADAA website
• Consideration to present abstract at EITHER the Annual Meeting of the ACNP or ABCT (complimentary registration to one of these meetings, but no additional travel funds are awarded)

AWARD CRITERIA
• Qualifying candidates may be individuals who are in training for postgraduate degrees (MD, PhD) OR PhD-level researchers or clinicians who have received their doctorates or completed a post-doctoral fellowship within the past three years OR physician scientists or clinicians who have completed their residency or research fellowship (whichever occurred last) within the past three years OR individuals who have completed an MSW, MPH, or other related degree and have conducted research about or related to anxiety disorders.
• Candidates must be the senior author on the poster abstract submitted.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be judged on the following points:
• Quality, extent, and multidisciplinary nature of research
• Personal statement of future in this area
• Evidence of interest and commitment to field of anxiety disorders
• Interest in becoming involved with ADAA

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Applicants must submit all application materials by November 21, 2008. All other materials can be sent by mail to ADAA or e-mailed to awards@adaa.org as a PDF file. Poster abstracts must be submitted online via the abstract submission site.
1. Submit your abstract, following all guidelines for Poster Abstracts by the deadline.
2. Complete the application, attach a complete curriculum vitae, and submit to ADAA by the deadline.
3. Have one letter of recommendation from a mentor, supervisor, department chair, or advisor sent directly to ADAA by the deadline. Letters with a signature will be accepted electronically.
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
