In this ADAA 2026 conference presentation, Richard Zarnberg, PhD, examined whether a digitally delivered mindfulness program can reduce neuroticism among adolescents at elevated risk for emotional disorders. Neuroticism is a well-established risk factor for anxiety, depression, and other internalizing disorders, particularly during adolescence, making prevention efforts during this developmental period especially important.
Drawing on findings from two studies involving youth ages 12–17, Dr. Zinbarg discussed the relationship between neuroticism and internalizing psychopathology, as well as the potential role of accessible, online mindfulness interventions in prevention efforts. The presentation explored how technology-supported mental health programs may help reduce emotional vulnerability and improve outcomes for young people before more severe symptoms develop.
