This webinar focuses on providing clinicians with practical tools for applying multicultural guidelines when providing psychotherapy to Black and African American clients. Attendees review the APA Multicultural Guidelines and the APA Guidelines on Race and Ethnicity in Psychology and discuss applications for improving multicultural sensitivity when implementing psychotherapy.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand challenges integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice.
  2. Identify guiding principles of multicultural practice.
  3. Apply the multicultural guidelines to working with Black and African American communities.

Erlanger Turner, PhD

Erlanger "Earl" Turner, PhD

Dr. Erlanger Turner, also known as Dr. Earl, is a licensed psychologist, professor, and owner of Turner Psychological & Consulting Services. He is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant, and mental health expert. In 2021, he launched Therapy for Black Kids - which provides mental health tech support and psychoeducation resources to help parents raise mentally healthy kids in the 21st century. Dr. Earl has over 15 years of leadership experience. In 2020, he became the 1st Black man to serve as President of the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (Division 37 of the American Psychological Association). He is the author of Mental Health among African Americans: Innovations in Research and Practice and author of the forthcoming book Parenting Guide for Helping Black Children Cope with Racial Stress.

State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Amedco maintains responsibility for this course. Social Workers completing this course receive 1.0 GENERAL continuing education credits.

New York Board for Social Workers (NY SW)

New York Board for Psychology (NY PSY)
Amedco is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists #PSY-0031. 1.0 hour.

NBCC
The Anxiety and Depression Association of American (ADAA) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6872. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. ADAA is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. 

CAMFT
The CAMFT board accepts credits from providers approved by the American Psychological Association (APA). 

ADAA Continuing Education Credits for Live and On-Demand Programming

Learners complete an evaluation form to receive a certificate of completion. You must participate in the entire activity as partial credit is not available.  If you are seeking continuing education credit for a specialty not listed below, it is your responsibility to contact your licensing/certification board to determine course eligibility for your licensing/certification requirement.

Some ADAA professional webinars focused on diversity or cultural competency subject matter are eligible for the Cross-Culture Competency Diversity Credit. If a webinar is eligible for this credit, it will be reflected on your credit certificate.
