I first became an ADAA member many years ago when I submitted a proposal to present a workshop on body dysmorphic disorder at one of the annual conferences. As an individual who has lived with BDD himself, and as a therapist who treats it, I was acutely aware of how few clinicians there were who specialized in it at the time. That was just the first of several presentations on BDD I have given at those conferences. I greatly appreciate ADAA's interest in continuing to improve both public and professional awareness about this perplexing and still under-recognized diagnosis. The annual conferences have allowed me numerous opportunities to further my professional skills by attending presentations given by worldwide leaders in the treatment of a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses. I also enjoy the ADAA's website and often refer clients to it for a thorough review of whatever disorder with which they may be struggling. Having that information available 24/7 has been invaluable to me both in my clinical work and throughout my own personal recovery.
