This CE eligible webinar will introduce Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). BFRBs are repetitive self-grooming behaviors, such as trichotillomania (hair pulling) and excoriation disorder (skin-picking), that fall within the scope of OCD and related disorders and are commonly comorbid with anxiety disorders. Although BFRBs are common, affecting as many as 1 in 20 individuals, accessing accurate information and evidence-based treatment resources can be challenging. This workshop will provide an overview of BFRBs, including the phenomenology, self-reinforcing nature of the disorders, current trends in evidence-based treatment, and resources for clinicians as well as for those living with these disorders.
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the prevalence and phenomenology of BFRBs
2. Discuss factors influencing the onset and maintenance of BFRBs
3. Describe evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatment for BFRBs
