Meet the January 2019 Featured Lab

Chicago Lab of Emotion and Risk (CLEAR Lab) - Chicago, IL

NU lab logo.JPGAbout Chicago Lab of Emotion and Risk (CLEAR Lab)

The Chicago Lab of Emotion and Physiology was founded in 2005 by Stewart Shankman at The University of Illinois at Chicago. Beginning in March of this year, the lab will move to the psychiatry department within Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine as the newly named CLEAR Lab (Chicago Lab of Emotion and Risk).

Mission

The CLEAR lab conducts multi-method research focusing on the neurophysiological markers of mood and anxiety disorders as well as the relationship between internalizing and externalizing psychopathologies. Our work examines mechanisms (e.g., threat and reward processing) that underlie and differentiate anxiety and depressive disorders with a focus on factors that confer vulnerability for psychopathology.

ADAA Members Involved

Stewart Shankman, PhD is the Director and Principal Investigator of the CLEAR lab. Dr. Shankman is the PI on multiple federally-funded research grants, mentors a small group of post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and research assistants, and is responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with researchers from different specialty areas.
