Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in Maryland, the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-35, and the 1st leading cause of death for ages 10-14. But suicide is preventable. With your support, together we can save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Last year, the Montgomery County Out of the Darkness Walk drew more than 650 walkers and raised over $75,000. Combined with other statewide walks and fundraisers, the Maryland Chapter raised more than $875,000. 80 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to suicide prevention!
By supporting the Montgomery County Out of the Darkness Walk, you also support AFSP’s bold goal of reducing the suicide rate by 20% by 2025.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention leads the fight against suicide.
Funds raised from the Out of the Darkness walks allow AFSP to fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. These funds support AFSP's annual Survivor Day events for survivors of a suicide loss and numerous presentations about how we as a community can prevent suicide (Talk Saves Lives). AFSP attends local community events, provide free resources, and engage the public. It is the AFSP team’s goal to educate the community to become smart about mental health and prevent suicide.
All sponsors will receive marketing and publicity benefits!
AFSP has several volunteer and sponsorship opportunities. You can register, donate, create a team, or be a virtual walker at www.afsp.org/MontgomeryCo.
