I became involved in ADAA as a postdoctoral fellow. I joined ADAA because I appreciate the close links between research and clinical practice that can be found at ADAA. There are few other organizations that are as accessible to patients, providers and researchers, and that help bridge the gaps between these individuals.

Dr. Hilary Weingarden

Dr. Hilary Weingarden is a psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Weingarden's research focuses on cognitive and emotional risk factors for adverse outcomes in obsessive-compulsive related disorders (OCRDs), and on applying technology to enhance assessments and interventions for OCRDs.

Donald J. Robinaugh, PhD

Donald J. Robinaugh received his PhD from Harvard University in 2015 under the mentorship of Dr. Richard McNally. Since 2018, he has worked as a clinical psychologist at the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders and Complicated Grief Program in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Robinaugh’s research is primarily focused on using computational psychiatry and the tools of network science to investigate mental disorders as complex systems.

Daniella Levine, B.A. is an incoming Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University under the mentorship of Dr. Norah Feeny. She is a former clinical research coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she examined the use of ecological momentary assessment as a tool to assess change and optimize person-specific CBT treatments for panic disorder.

Setting Up Patients for Success: Providing Patients with Psychoeducation Increases Their Resilience and Helps Maintain Progress in Treatment

This presentation will address how to provide patients with psychoeducation on a number of topics, including the anxiety/OCD cycle, the cognitive behavioral triangle, exposure and response prevention, habituation, inhibitory learning, psychological flexibility, values, the power of choice, and treatment progress expectations. In addition, this session will offer ways for clinicians to build rapport and establish trust with patients through the psychoeducation process by using relatable metaphors, humor, and providing helpful reassurance.
