NIH Funded Clinical Trial at Kent State University and University Hospitals of Cleveland +

NW Anxiety Institute, a specialty outpatient clinic located in Portland, Oregon, is currently hiring full-time licensed clinicians (psychologist, therapist, social worker). The clinical team at NWAI provides a unique and collaborative approach to helping children, teens, and adults overcome OCD and anxiety disorders through individual, group, and intensive outpatient therapy. By tailoring treatment and adhering to evidence-based principles, clinicians are encouraged to infuse creativity and personality when striving to support individuals to “Stop Coping and Start Conquering” as they courageously change their relationship with anxiety. NW Anxiety Pediatrics, located only a block away, is a space dedicated to offering families and children seeking support for understanding and overcoming OCD and anxiety. Both clinics are housed in fully-restored and renovated historic craftsman homes from the early 1900’s, allowing for a professional, yet warm environment.

A New York Times article, Why are more American teenagers than ever suffering from severe anxiety, features anxiety treatment programs including NWAI that provide evidence-based education and support for parents and anxious youth. Although not required, clinicians with interest in providing clinical presentations are encouraged and supported.

The current position is perfect for a clinician who is passionate about working with those living with anxiety and excited to receive training on using CBT and exposure response prevention (ERP) in therapy. Training on the art of delivering exposure-based techniques is provided through a hands-on and supportive approach. NWAI offers a highly competitive salary, complete with a robust benefits package and opportunities for continuing education and professional development.

Department of Psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine +

Posting Date: December 2020

Focus: Neural mechanisms and treatment of trauma, anxiety and stress related disorders

PIs: Naomi M. Simon, M.D., M.Sc. and Mohammed Milad, PhD

A post-doctoral psychology fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry is available for July 2021 or earlier at the Anxiety and Complicated Grief Program and the Behavioral Neuroscience Program at NYU Langone Health/NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSoM). The post-doctoral fellow will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge clinical and translational neuroscience research on PTSD, stress and anxiety-related disorders and will receive close mentorship and support as they continue to develop their own professional career in clinical psychology and clinical translational research.

The Behavioral Neuroscience Program at NYUGSoM is led by Dr. Mohammed Milad, a neuroscientist and Professor of Psychiatry who is a leader in the field of neuroimaging of the fear extinction network, having designed and validated a novel human fear conditioning and extinction paradigm which has been replicated as a state of the art approach to investigating key neural circuits with behavior and symptoms across multiple conditions. The lab has ongoing studies including an NIMH funded fMRI study of the role of estrogen on fear extinction learning and PTSD outcomes with prolonged exposure therapy in a clinical trial in collaboration with Dr. Simon’s lab.

The Anxiety and Complicated Grief Program (ACGP) is a clinical research program led by Dr. Naomi Simon, a Professor of Psychiatry at NYUGSoM. The ACGP mission is to improve the understanding and treatment of anxiety, fear, trauma, and grief-related disorders through clinical investigation and treatment studies. The Program intends to leverage the exponential growth in real-time advances in biology, pharmacotherapy, digital health, and psychology to better understand key factors that lead to the development and persistence of anxiety, trauma and grief disorders, as well as their optimal treatment.

The fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive training in research investigation and clinical care in fear-based disorders with a focus on PTSD. The fellow will primarily be involved in collaborative neuroimaging studies including an NIMH trial investigating the impact of prolonged exposure therapy augmented by a pill of estradiol vs. placebo in women with PTSD. Responsibilities will include providing brief prolonged exposure therapy and conducting diagnostic and symptom severity assessments. Additional training opportunities are present for neuroimaging studies as well as participation and training in research focusing on prolonged grief, panic, social and generalized anxiety disorders.  Areas of research include pharmacotherapy, complementary approaches such as exercise and mindfulness-based stress reduction, psychopathology and biomarker studies.

Applicants must have a PhD and have completed an internship in clinical psychology by July 2021. Competitive applicants will have prior experience in relevant clinical care and/or research, a background in related psychology, neuroscience, and/or biological studies, and demonstrated interest in this line of research as exemplified by academic presentations and/or peer-review publications.  Supervised clinical time to support training and licensure will be included.

Interested applicants should email Dr. Simon with their cover letter and curriculum vitae at [email protected] by January 15th. Please CC Carly Miron at [email protected]. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Rogers Memorial Hospital Behavioral Specialist +

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW IN NEUROIMAGING AND AFFECTIVE-COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE

JOB DESCRIPTION

A postdoctoral position is available for a qualified and creative scientist with training suited to analysis of big datasets of functional neuroimaging data. These datasets also include behavioral, VR and momentary sampling data acquired on the same human subjects. Specific experience in high level functional neuroimaging data analysis is essential. Because of the scope of the project an interest and capacity for connecting neuroimaging data to other measures of brain function and behavior is also important. Because this integrative approach is applied within a study assessing depression and weight management outcomes, experience with clinical populations is also desirable.

This position would have the opportunity to jump immediately into data analysis and publication, and in parallel be part of an ongoing study. The study is funded under the NIH Science of Behavior Change priority initiative. In this study we have already completed acquisition baseline neuroimaging data. Repeat scans, and associated behavioral and VR measures.

Our scientific goals are both basic and applied. We want to use data-driven approaches to identifying subgroups of people based on their profiles of brain activation and connectivity. We focus in particular on intrinsic brain networks such as the default mode, as well as task-evoked networks implicated in emotion regulation and cognitive control. We also seek to understand which of these networks, and subgroups defined by network profiles, relate to which aspects of behavior in self-report, cognitive-emotional testing, VR and passive sampling settings. Our precision health question is to understand whether and how changes in brain networks predict changes in behavior over time, focusing on mood and weight management outcomes. We will use this information to tailor future interventions for depression and accompanying weight management.  This study is a two-phase project funded through the NIH Common Fund’s Science of Behavior Change roadmap initiative. The position will be based at Stanford, within the William’s Panlab.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience/neuroimaging or related fields.

  1. Profound experience in statistical analysis and data-driven computational approaches.
  2. High level experience with functional magnetic resonance imaging, including analysis of activation and of connectivity.
  3. Familiarity in how to implement multivariate computational models for integrating neuroimaging data with behavioral and self-report data.
  4. A demonstrated capacity to drive first author publications.
  5. A clear interest and motivation to pursue research in neuroimaging relevant to precision mental health and innovative ways to think about the science of behavior change.
  6. The capacity to interpret the clinical relevance of human neuroscience results.
  7. We also require an ability to work collaboratively and self-motivation.
